There are plentiful agates on Earth, not the blue lace agate. This stone is a late discovery – by George Swanson on his farm in Namibia (South West Africa at that time). He called it "Gem of Ecology" because of the stone color which looks like clouds above the Earth if you see it from space.
There is a little history of blue lace agate or even for blue agate - partially because for the rarity of the stone, partially because of the ignorance of European settlers. For the Northwestern Native American tribes the blue agate was the stone of high value. In some cases only the Chef could wear it. It was also essential that the Chef could have at least one of this stones. However European settlers couldn’t see any use for this blue rock.

Blue lace agate is sometimes associated with the Virgin Mary and is a symbol of motherhood. In Scandinavia this stone is sacred to the earth mother.
