In plain English, sardonyx is onyx which has reddish –brown (sard) and white bands. As been from the agate family, sardonyx sometime could be called “banded agate.”

This stone has a very long tale of history behind it. Well known and appreciated by the ancient Egyptians, it was carved into sacred scarab beetles to wear as powerful talisman. Roman warriors kept a piece of sardonyx with engraved Mars or Hercules believing the stone could make them fearless and courageous.

In Renaissance Europe sardonyx was respected as the stone which would bestow eloquence on speakers, therefore it was especially valued by lawyers.

Properties

Sardonyx is said to dispel sorrow, give self-control, bring friends, insure success in business, and grant good fortune. It is good for all legal matters and for obtaining justice.

Sardonyx believed to be a peacekeeper and would bring healing in the family - between couple or between parents and children.

Another power attribute of sardonyx is been a mind sharpener; it helps the wearer to see the world with open eyes and not get lost in dreams and idle wishes. It also gives the courage to be yourself.
